I heard a knock at the door and when I opened it the police arrested me for breaking and entering.  I actually using my own key to open my own office, however, their attitude was conclusive, due to the fact it was not common to see locals running a business in the area.  I produced all my credentials, but it made no difference.  The officer simply said, "Office hours are from 9-5  and no black people own no office in here."  (actually I'm not really black, I'm brown, but that made no difference).  Apparently they were in search of a robbery suspect and saw me going into my office and simply saw an opportunity to make their work easier.  As a result, I spend the night locked up in a cell until the lawyer, Wallace Whitfield,  along with criminal investigation offices were able to clear up the misunderstanding.

Yes, it was a false arrest and even though my image was tinted in the eyes of those who did not know the details, I decided to let it go.  So why didn't I sue?  Suing the government or the police department would have given the impression that the country was bad on judgments, when in fact, I knew the whole incident was simply the works of one female cop who simply wanted to show off herself in front of tourists.  As it is written, "All things work together for good to them that love the Lord."  This situation though intended for bad, played itself into helping me overcome a massive pioneering hurdle that I was facing.....to be continued

5. Bahamas Film Industry big problems are Bahamas Movie Industry big advantages.

His biggest problems provided his biggest opportunity for growth. Jefford curre' real life adventures at the start  of the Bahamas film industry encourage us all to look at disappointments from a positive perspective. It motivates us to view setbacks as going backward, in a slingshot.

"I have made more money than I could spend in my life time, and I can't take it with me.  My only goal is to have the best time I can, with whatever time I have left, and to do as much good as I can.  I can tell that your heart is in the right place.  If there is anyway I can be of help just let me know."  I quickly realized where he was going and did not want to pursue it.  I did not want to change the nature of our friendship in anyway, by making him feel that my time with him was in pursuit of money.  His counsel was invaluable at this critical point and I needed to keep the door of no pressure communication open.
Never be in a position to need money, or like my grandmother used to say, "Don't be hot for anything."  It is a strategy that I had developed over the years.  My uncle Pat taught me the most important thing in playing chess was to position yourself well in advance, in order to maneuver with authority and confidence to any position that you need to be in when the time presented itself.  Positioning as he used to say, is everything, in anything you plan to do.  With everyone fully knowledgeable of my position, it has allowed me access to all levels of authority in the Bahamas and around the world.  Unlike many of my counterparts who were always asking for something from politicians, I decided to distinguish myself to be the one call that they may get that is up beat, positive and not asking for anything.  My call or intended visit now means one thing and one thing only - I have something to give to a community.  As a result, I don't get fake  corporate or bureaucratic delays on important issues.  I have never been put on hold and no one had ever found a need to hide behind their secretaries, because "Jefford" was calling.
Later that summer I invited Mystery man to my house for a down to earth fresh fish meal, prepared by the best cook in the Bahamas, Darlene.  We talked about old times, the future and he even let me in on some secrets he could not share with me while I was a direct entry marine specialist, working under him.  These were mostly funny stories about top administration personnel.  Mystery man brought the money issue up again.  This time I told him, "Well sir, since you're so persistent on turning me into a big film financing mogul, why don't you introduce me to all of your rich friends?"  It was really a joke, but he took me seriously.  The next day....to be continued

3. Bahamas Film Industry, gateway to the world of blockbuster movies.

Jefford Curre' , Bahamas Film Industry Icon

It was almost pointless trying to explain anything.

Upon arrival we hung out at my brother Erskine's news studio in Cable Beach.  After much negotiation, I landed an office space in the Guanahani Village resort.  The property was owned and ran by the Myster family.  Originally from Germany they had acquired and built several operations in the Bahamas.  The Mysters' are a very nice family who made it as reasonable as possible for me to lock down my first movie office.

While in the midst of structuring a huge line up of movie deals, my office was frequent by locals who were seeking entry level advice for the new industry, that was clearly in formation.  It was almost like a museum atmosphere, as the local wanna-be filmmakers started dropping by.  The pressure was on, to put my vision or fact to the test as to whether or not this really was the next number one industry.

I remember one particular fellow who made several trips to my new Megavision Pictures office.  We talked at length, he was very polite and had very good manners.  In respect for him, as a child of God I won't call his name without his permission.  He said to me, "Do you really think that  movie making will be the Bahamas next number one industry?"  I said, "Absolutely, beyond all shadow of a doubt."  I told him that he had an opportunity to get in on the ground level, if he got started right away.  I also told him that he would be a big man some day.  He said, "Thank you" and dashed out of the office.

The next day he came back with his mother, a rather young looking pleasant and beautiful person. We sat in my office, and after a long and reassuring conversation, they decided that he would be off to film school.  The last thing he said to me was "I hope I could get a job with you fellows when I get back."  Right now he's doing so well he doesn't need a job with us or anyone else, he's running his own show and I am so happy for him.  As he was leaving I said to him, humorously, "Don't forget to sign the visitor's book, because 20 years from now ...to be continued

Bahamas Film Industry Icon relates to Black History Month from a worldwide cinema view.

Jefford Curre' , Bahamas Film Industry Icon identifies with the challenges and triumps that marks Black History Month.

During this Black History month, Stars In Paradise will feature, an excerpt from "Jefford Curre' Epic Memoir".  This month's daily segments will be taken from the chapter titled, "Civilian Engagement".

Civilian Engagement (starsinparadise.com)

EXCERPT 1.

After 5-1/2 years of non-stop action and 37 successful missions in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, I needed a therapeutic transition into civilian life. So I followed up on all the tour invites generated by my hit records and started touring. When the tour reached California I regained a renewed interest in my childhood desire to make movies. With the help of a few Hollywood insiders, I began my movie industry training with a few workshops/seminars in production and marketing at UCLA. I was given special invitational access to the set of big budget movies. During this time I met a lot of very nice girls and guys, who were also pursuing some sort of art career. We all lived together in a very nice place near the beach, that was set up by a few European philanthropists and business professionals. I was invited to join for a residential stay which was very convenient at the time of a major transitional point in my life.
When I first moved in, I must admit, I was a bit on my guard, and. I could not believe that people actually set up operations like this to assist artist. But over the course of time I realized that the world is truly made up of a lot of different mindsets and kindness can come without any sinister agenda. There are truly a lot of very smart people committed to making the world a better place for the good of all. These small philanthropic groups began as small operations and over the years they grew to become a real potent force for good. Not to mention controlling major acquisitions of key entertainment and luxury projects.
That summer my agent surprised me by securing a unique position on the set of John Claude Vandam’s, Lion Heart movie. The part initially started out as an extra and then moved up to...
